I almost gave up on art. In fact, I didn’t even know I was an artist. I always imagined female artists as lithe, dispassionate, a little rugged even—flat-bottomed-and-full-breasted Sam Shepards who photographed straight on, cool, and otherworldly. No way a once chubby young girl with a Spanish name who found everything funny could be taken seriously. That is until I took myself and everything that happened in my life seriously.

All you need to know about me is that I grew up in Houston, my parents are from Cuba, I live in Los Angeles, and love my son very much. The rest is in my writing.
